The front of my Victorian end of terrace house looked a mess and had a patchwork of different kinds of mortar, and areas in need of a clean. I didn’t want new mortar to dominate the brick or the house to look scrubbed clean, and feared that this is what many companies I saw would do. Samuel gave me the confidence that Williams Restoration could achieve what I wanted and the whole team did a fantastic job. I am so pleased with the result – it looks beautiful.

We worked with Williams Restoration on our RIBA award winning project The Sekforde, a Grade II Listed Regency period pub. The brief was to re-point the brickwork to the listed façade, which had been badly affected from the removal of cement based render that had been applied sometime around the 1930s. The existing cement based mortar was removed and repointed with lime based mortar, which was all then soot washed to blend in with the surrounding Georgian buildings of Sekforde Street. The soot washing was a pain staking process carried out mostly by hand due to damage on the face of the brickwork from previously removed cement based render. As well as this, Williams created a new projecting stucco cornice for the pub’s shopfront, which was particularly challenging given the curved nature of the building. We were impressed not only with Williams’ quality of work on such a challenging project, but also their expertise, professionalism and work ethic on site. We would happily recommend Williams Restoration for any restoration project and hope to work with them again in the future.

Cumberland Lodge is a grade two listed building that is part of the Crown Estate in Windsor Great Park. We employed Williams Restoration to refurbished the brickwork on our main front entrance. As there was a number of different types of pointing required, including Tuck Pointing and many bricks to be repaired including masonry cleaning we required a lot of information and the Williams team were happy to visit as often as I required in order to understand our needs and to fine tune the details before awarding the contract. I found Williams Restoration professional, prompt, tidy and courteous throughout and we were so pleased with the finished product that we have already given them another contract for additional work.

Our Italianate 1850’s house had damp problems. A specialist surveyor told us the main problem was moisture being trapped behind defective cement render and the only real fix was to replace this with breathable lime render. We thought this would also be a good opportunity to restore missing decorative features, most of which had been lost when the building was converted into flats in the 1970s. The Williams Restoration team took on the whole job, from removing the cement render through to re-decoration. There’s no avoiding the fact that this type of work is messy and sometimes noisy, but they tried hard to minimise nuisance to ourselves and our neighbours. Where there were choices to be made, Craig discussed the options and their cost implications. Costs were generally kept in line with initial estimates. Some of the decorative work was quite demanding, such as running arches, pilasters, and string courses in situ, to match original features remaining on nearby houses. They did a good job, and the facade now looks very smart and authentic.
