Albion Street

Until the bulldozers moved in around the 1960’s, Albion Street was a busy and vibrant community. Created at the end of the 18th century, the street grew to be the town’s commercial heart, shopping centre and a densely populated residential district. It housed a shipyard, sail-lofts, horse drawn trams, houses for labourers, ships’ captains and shopkeepers to name a few. These days Albion street is strictly residential but not without its Georgian character.

Scope of Work

Williams Restoration undertook the restoration and conservation of the frontal façade. This included undertaking a full façade clean with our specialist ThermaTech modular cleaning system. A system created with the environment in mind. Energy efficiency, water consumption and its low emissions makes it one of the leading resources for a environmentally friendly company to have, carrying out several brick repairs and substantial amount of repointing. This was all done with history in mind. The bricks and mortar were meticulously matched, as was the pointing finish to give this building a new lease of life. Our specialist, heritage trained conservators carried out ‘Tuck Pointing’ on serval of the arches.
