Facade Cleaning

The decision to clean a historic Building is not to be taken lightly. The nature and condition of all substrates must be understood, not forgetting pointing materials. This may include atmospheric soiling, paint, lime-wash, metallic staining and graffiti. Each requiring a different cleaning approach.

Brick Cleaning

Bricks in heritage and traditional walls vary from soft (red rubbers) to hard (Staffordshire blue) and from smooth (glazed brick) to roughly textured (stocks). To clean these substrates we use a thermatec super heated system which will, by the use of up to 150 degree heat, remove any soiling and loose friable material. Great care and understanding has to be taken to ensure the correct amount of pressure is used in this process. For certain cleans the use of a weak biodegradable acid can be applied to a wet in surface to remove stubborn dirt and grime.

Stone Cleaning

Stone typically responds well to water cleaning. Water delivered from fine sprays provides sufficient water to dissolve and mobilise soiling that develops in urban areas. This is followed by a doff clean. Air abrasive cleaning systems are usually considered when soiling is not water-soluble and when, for reasons of site logistics or material incompatibility, chemical processes are inappropriate or less preferable.

Paint Stripping

Chemical cleaning is generally the most suitable approach as it is able to accommodate variations in texture, condition and hardness. It is undoubtedly the best method for the removal of paint.
